The last Earthquake that hit off the coast of Japan a couple of days ago left millions powerless. The quake shook the already battered communities from the huge 9.0magnitude  earthquake on March 11th, and reset most of the progress that had been made since. The latest quake knocked out six conventional power plants in the area, though three have since come back on line and the others should be up again soon. About 950,000 households were still without electricity Friday evening local time. That includes homes in prefectures in Japan's northwest that had been spared in the first quake.

Even with the power plants restored it is unclear how many areas will actually see power return. Many power lines throughout the area took damaged, and it is not clear at this time how that will affect power restoration in the short term. If the loss of power wasn't enough gas was scarce again, and long lines formed at stations. Stores that had only recently restocked their shelves sold out of basics Friday and were forced to ration purchases again.
